Proven Reliability

Our Service4Life criterion of Proven Reliability is founded in an experience we had in 2001…

We had installed one of the first CR digital imaging systems in the region for a veterinary customer.  It initially lived up to expectations, but about a year after use it completely stopped working.  It had some minor issues during the first year, but nothing prepared us for the response we received from the manufacturer when the unit was deemed not repairable, “Well, that system is out of warranty and we don’t support that model any longer so I guess the doctor has to buy a new one.”  You can imagine the doctor’s response after telling him he’d have to buy a new digital system after only 14 months!  He had just spent $60,000 a little over a year ago on the newest technology and it was now a paper weight.

That particular manufacturer did not stand behind their name, we stood behind ours.  Kane X-ray had been around since 1947 and had built a reputation for service over 3 generations.  Our name was on that product.  We bought the doctor a new digital system (obviously from another manufacturer).

This self-imposed recall ended up costing us $70,000 in losses.  As you can imagine that’s a huge number for any small business to absorb.  But, the hard lesson (our nightmare) we experienced back in 2001 helped establish a critical criterion in our Service4Life equipment selection process – PROVEN RELIABILITY.

We learned the hard way that the newest isn’t always the best choice.  We also learned that just because the price is better doesn’t mean there aren’t hidden costs associated with quality issues.  Therefore any product we recommend under our Serivce4Life commitment has a track record of proven reliability.  Yes this sometimes means that we need to give up a sale because we can’t compete with an unproven product that has a substantial price discount, but it also means that when you buy from Kane, when we put our name and our commitment on a product – we’re standing behind it.
