Serving mid-Atlantic Medical Professionals for Three Generations
Not long after returning from World War II, in 1947, a friend suggested to Dennis Kane that X-ray equipment might be a great business to try. Within a few years, Dennis was installing the latest equipment throughout DC and Maryland, and had built a strong small business in this quickly growing field. There were ups and downs over the years, the company’s name changed and Dennis even took on a partner at one point. Above all else, the team built a reputation for being the best – providing doctors with service in the truest meaning of the word. They would work late into the night if needed, treating clients like family and sealing important deals with just a handshake.
By the 1980s, Dennis’ son Dan had joined the business and it was called “Kane X-ray” as it is
today. The company grew significantly, taking on new lines and territories as more specialized X-ray equipment evolved. Nancy Thompson, Dennis Kane’s daughter, also joined the company, as Kane’s bookkeeper and administrator.
In the 1990’s, Jake Thompson, the third generation, joined the Kane team. Jake, much like Dan before him, began working in the warehouse while he was still in high school. In 1999, after graduating from University of Maryland with a degree in genetics, Jake came aboard full time.
Under Jake’s leadership, Kane began to research and develop new and better ways to provide the high level of service that Dennis Kane was so committed to from the beginning. Jake went on to earn his MBA degree and began to implement systems normally associated with much larger companies – computerized scheduling and dispatch, quality control and management systems. Kane was now serving five states and offering a full range X-ray specialized X-ray equipment and software.
After 60 years, the secret to Kane X-ray’s continued growth and success is its unique commitment to both old-fashioned, true customer service, as well as cutting edge technology. Kane became one of the first providers to offer digital imaging and complete electronic workflow systems. Today, Kane is evolving faster than ever, not just offering the latest hardware and software, but also always improving its service with new financing, training and support programs. As a result, Kane attracts the brightest minds in the business to its team and many of the best medical practices as clients.
