Is “good enough” good enough?

With all the digital imaging options available on the market, the question that we’ve been wrestling with the past 6 months is: “Is ‘good enough’ good enough?”  Basically at what point do we say, ok it’s not a Cadillac digital imaging device but it’s good enough for our customers.

We’ve been helping customers go digital for almost 11 years now.  Early on we sold digital imaging equipment we felt was “good enough” – but unfortunately we had a few bad experiences (excuse me – digital nightmares – [see past blog posts]).

Moving forward we made a change to protect our customers.  We took a pretty hard line approach to only offering digital equipment with proven reliability, superior image quality, and continuing innovation in software advances.  As a reseller we could promote any product on the market available to us, but these were the only criteria we wanted to accept for products offered to our customers.

Unfortunately, in this economy sometimes “good enough” is going to have to be “good enough”.  Let’s be honest, digital is definitely an upgrade over film.  However, we’re still in the business of health imaging.   We know that our service repair times and the products we recommend directly impact our customer’s ability to correctly diagnose and treat patients.  So we wrestle with this “good enough” question.

Kane X-ray is currently researching and testing a host of new digital imaging products that fall in the “good enough” or economy class equipment category.  We can’t promise we’ll be able to apply our Service4Life criteria on these products but we will be upfront and honest about the differences in equipment in our product portfolio.
